1616 Water Damage shorted problem

1616 Water Damage shorted problem Solution

History:  The phone was borrowed from the owner by his friend.  After an hour the borrower returned the phone totally dead.

Diagnostic:  Using a VOM I found out that the phone is shorted.  Vbat is directly connected to ground.  I dissamble the phone and I found out that it was filled with moist and water.

Solution:

1.  Clean the board.  You could rinse it with water and washed it using liquid soap.  Dry it using hot air.
You could use ultrasonic cleaner as well.

2.  After cleaning the board.  Test again using Multi-tester.  In this case shorted is still there.

3.  Using schematic diagram trace every electronic component that could be the culprit in this problem.

In this 1616 phone I found out that C2213 is the problem.  Replace or remove it and my problem was solved.

How can I learn to repair phone?

Are you are just starting your career in servicing mobile phone? Or are you bored with your job and you want to start a new path in repairing mobile phone? The very first question come into your mind is how can I learn to repair phone? All of these question will be answered in this blog.

I will answer your question according to my experience. Every answer differs from different point of view and different people. Let me share to you my experience how I started my career in servicing broken cell phone.

I was an Instructor in a Computer School here in our country. I am a professor of math and computer technical students. I was happy for the two years I was teaching after sometime I got bored. My job is a routine. I come to school early and go home on time. Until such time I was assigned to teach cellphone repair. Teaching cellphone repair at first was very hard I have to familiarize myself from the different components inside the mobile phone.

The very key in repairing mobile phone first to study basic electronics for me It was not hard because I graduated with a degree in electronics. To learn to repair phone you need first to enroll yourself to a technical school major in electronics. Why? because all of the components you will be dealing in servicing cell phone are all electronics components.

My degree in electronics cut the shortcut for me to learn servicing mobile phone. All I need to know are the basic components inside the phone and find out what are the functions of those components.

During my years in servicing mobile I have to go back to basic. I need to identify components, read schematic diagrams, read voltage, check for the continuity and everything that could learn when I was studying.

Now that you have basic skills and understanding in electronics. It would be faster to learn in repairing mobile phone by hanging out cellphone techician guys. Yes I did that too. Even though I was a graduate of electronics I needed to hang out with people specially those are veteran in repairing mobile phone. Believed me it will cut the road in learning how to repair mobile phone. You will now learn the basic but you will learn the tips and tricks which later you understand that it all came from the basic electronics you learned from the school.

You can enhance more your skills in repairing mobile phone by joining online forums and community whose expertise are electronics and cell phone technician.

Finally and most important to learn how to repair phone is you must love what you are doing. Yes you cant be forever in this career if you will not have passion and drive to do everyday what you have to do.

That is for now see you guys later.
